Nora is recruited into an elite band of raiders, the Jarls, and set on a mission to track down ancient artifacts that will unleash the nine worlds of the Vikings. That's a lot of "danger" in a single sentence, and it's only the beginning. The words are vivid enough to keep you in the middle of the action, and the narrative thread remains clear as I followed the kids' quests and the strange world that surrounds them. I had to add a note: the book really does feel like a full-blown adventure, and it's a delight to hear.
In the end, City of Skies is a solid, fast-paced fantasy that promises more to come in the rest of the series. If you're looking for something that combines the grit of a dystopia with the grandeur of Viking lore, it's a perfect place to start.
