Book description
Grave Visions - Kalayna Price (Audiobook Review)
I just finished the fourth entry in Kalayna Price's Alex Craft series, and I'm buzzing with excitement to share what I heard. If you've been following Alex, you know she's no ordinary witch-she's a grave witch who can talk to the dead. In this volume, the stakes rise even higher. Alex's own hidden heritage is revealed, and it's shaking both the human world and Faerie to their cores. As an unaffiliated fae, she finds herself the perfect candidate to investigate a new street drug that's been making waves in the liminal spaces between our realm and the fae.
The narrator does a stellar job capturing the grim charm of Nekros City. I could feel the damp, gritty streets, the weight of ancient secrets, and the electric buzz of the glamour-infused drug that turns hallucinations into brutal reality. Alex's internal struggle-protecting her own secret while navigating her newfound powers-adds a layer of intensity that keeps the story moving. The conflict in Faerie escalates quickly; Alex is pulled into a battle that threatens to swallow her freedom if she doesn't act fast.
What really sets this audiobook apart is the way Kalayna balances the supernatural with a human touch. There's a steady beat of humor, a touch of romance, and moments of gritty horror that keep the tension high without becoming overwhelming. The pacing is spot on-each chapter drops a new revelation or a twist that compels you to keep listening. The sound design enhances the eerie atmosphere, making the voice of the dead feel like a distant echo in a cathedral, while the city's underbelly comes alive with sharp, metallic undertones.
If you're a fan of urban fantasy that doesn't shy away from darker themes, this is a must-listen. Alex Craft's journey from a humble grave witch to a pivotal figure in Faerie's turmoil is as captivating as it is complex. The audiobook delivers on that promise, bringing every nuance to life with a clear, engaging narration that feels both personal and cinematic.
In short, Grave Visions is a triumph of storytelling and sound. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, adds fresh depth to an already beloved series, and offers a thrilling glimpse into the mystical underworld that Kalayna Price has built with such care. If you're looking for an audiobook that combines suspense, supernatural intrigue, and a compelling protagonist, this one is the perfect pick.
