Book description
Let's be real: I was skeptical about another "bad boy meets innocent girl" romance. But This Man? It's the audiobook version of your favorite guilty pleasure-like that one song you play on repeat when you're supposed to be working. Jodi Ellen Malpas doesn't just write romance; she crafts experiences, and this audio version? It's pure, addictive magic.
From the moment Ava walks into The Manor-expecting a stuffy old gentleman-she's blindsided by Jesse Ward. And let's be honest: the narrator nails his voice. Smooth, confident, dripping with that "I know exactly what I'm doing" charm. You can hear the smirk in his words. Ava's panic, her desperate attempts to run, the way her body betrays her attraction? The narrator makes it visceral. I was physically leaning forward in my chair, heart racing, thinking, Oh no, she's going to regret this.
What makes this work isn't just the chemistry-it's the realness. Jesse isn't a cartoon villain. He's complex, flawed, and terrifyingly compelling. Malpas doesn't shy away from the messy, dangerous pull between them. You know Ava's heading for heartbreak, but you also know you'd do the same thing. That internal war? The narrator makes it crackle in your ears. You feel Ava's confusion, her fear, her wanting.
And the pacing? Perfection for audio. Short, punchy scenes. The tension builds like a slow burn you can't walk away from. I listened to this while cooking dinner and nearly burned the toast because I was so hooked. It's the kind of book where you think, Just one more chapter... and then realize you've been listening for an hour straight.
Malpas' reputation as a #1 bestselling author isn't just hype-it's earned. She knows exactly how to make you root for the "wrong" choice. Jesse's arrogance, his confidence, his intensity? It's not just sexy; it's magnetic. The audiobook amplifies every whispered threat, every lingering pause. You don't just read about the attraction-you feel it.
This isn't just a romance. It's a reminder of why we love this genre: the messy, painful, necessary ache of falling for someone who's clearly bad for you. And honestly? I'm already counting down the days until I hear the next book in the series. If you've ever wondered why people obsess over "enemies-to-lovers" tropes, This Man is the answer. It's the audiobook you'll play on repeat, the one you'll recommend to your best friend while whispering, You HAVE to hear this. No sugarcoating, just pure, irresistible storytelling that sticks with you long after the last word fades. Trust me-your ears (and your heart) will thank you.
