This audiobook isn't trying to reinvent dystopian YA-it knows exactly what it is: a greatest hits package with Tobias Eaton (aka Four) finally getting his own spotlight. And thank the factionless heavens, because who didn't want more of Theo James' brooding stare in book form? The stories walk us through Tobias's pre-Tris life: leaving Abnegation, surviving Dauntless initiation, and all those angsty internal monologues we thought were unique to Tris but clearly run in the Prior-Eaton family.
The narration here does what it's supposed to-keeps things moving without overshadowing the material. It's serviceable, not showstopping, which fits perfectly with a collection that's more of a companion piece than a revolution. Think of it as the director's commentary of the Divergent saga: interesting if you're invested, but probably skippable if you're just here for the plot.
Publishers Weekly calls it "a welcome trip down memory lane," and they're not wrong-assuming your memory lane involves teenage rebellion, romantic cliffhangers, and a suspicious amount of knife-throwing.
