The audiobook format really showcases Meyer's gift for writing dialogue that sounds exactly like teenagers speaking in a library during closing hours-whispered, yet somehow still capable of inducing eye-rolling in listeners over the age of twelve. The narrator captures Bella's internal monologue with the enthusiasm of someone reading a grocery list, which is oddly appropriate given the mundane nature of most of her problems.
What makes New Moon truly exceptional is how Meyer manages to create a love triangle where one person literally cannot touch the other without wanting to eat their face, and the third option is basically just Bella's own depression. It's romantic nihilism at its finest.
