Her expertise in finance is matched only by her complete inability to grasp that swords don't care about fiscal policy. It's refreshing, really-finally, a fantasy protagonist who understands that money talks, but also literally cannot walk.
Enter Geder, the runt of the noble litter. This man couldn't lead a parade to a brewery, yet somehow ends up with a front-row seat to history's worst power play. He's more interested in philosophy than conquest, which is adorable-until it isn't. Abraham writes him with the kind of tragic inevitability usually reserved for Greek tragedies and reality TV stars.
